About the event

"The quality of your life ultimately depends on the quality of your relationships." Esther Perel

If you'd like to develop skills for building healthy relationships (with yourself and others), develop awareness of why and how you communicate, what your triggers are, and to practice alternative ways to engage in communication and connection with those you are in relationship with - this series is for you.

Three workshops building upon each other:

Workshop 1: Empathy & Self-empathy (May 4th) 12.30-5.30

Workshop 2: Requests & asking for what we really want (May 18th) 12.30-5.30

Workshop 3: Repair & coming back from ruptures (June 8 th) 12.30-5.30

The workshops will take place in Wellington, location will be given on registration.

Why participate in these three workshops?

This series of three workshops is borne out of our belief that having healthy relationships is a skill set - and one that we all can learn. These workshops will look at skills across all kinds of relationships - intimate partnerships, friendships, work relationships...

These workshops are for you if you:

- care about relationships in your life;

- want to move away from blame, shame and anger, and towards honest and caring conversations;

- would like to deepen your connection with your loved ones;

- are tired of repeating the same patterns in interactions;

- are willing to spend time learning and practising skills for building healthy relationships;

- Would like to learn how to repair and reconnect after ruptures.

These workshops are for those who want to invest in their relationships, before, during and after fault lines and conflicts happen.

~ Workshop 1: Empathy & Self-empathy (May 4) ~

In this workshop we will focus on learning practical ways in which empathy and self-empathy can be a tool for building relationships - with ourselves and others.

During this workshop you will:

- Learn what empathy is and what it is not;

- Practice accessing self-empathy when you’re triggered;

- Explore how empathy can transform even the most challenging moments in relationships

~ Workshop 2: Requests & asking for what we really want (May 18) ~

In this workshop we will focus on the power of making requests, and how they can transform our relationships with ourselves, our loved ones, and the wider world. We will practise making positive language requests, notice what stands in the way of asking for what we want, and learn what happens when we receive a “no”.

During this session you will:

- Practise how to ask for what you truly want;

- Experiment with making bold requests of others and ourselves;

- Explore the differences between requests, demands and threats;

- Notice what happens when your requests are met with a “no”.

~ Workshop 3: Repair & coming back from ruptures (June 8 ) ~

In this workshop we will explore one of the most important elements of healthy relationships - repair.

Dr Becky (Good Inside): “When you repair, you go further than just lifting the self-blame, you get to add in the other things that were missing in the first place – the safety, connection, coherence, love, and goodness.”

During this session you will:

- Identify forms of rupture and how this experience plays out in your nervous system;

- Learn why repair is such an important practice in healthy relationships;

- Explore what stands in the way of making repairs;

- Practise how to come back from relational ruptures stronger;

- Learn the elements of repair that serve relationships (and those that don’t).
